Demoscene is strange subculture where art, music and code thrive in the strangest way. Only about 10k sceners on this planet, rather tiny for such diverse subculture. Yet it gave the world many amazing people. I've been to a few demoparties, such as Revision, old Breakpoint and Assembly. And they're all strangely powerful in all aspects.
The beautiful thing about each music of each demo is its power to change your perspective, even from the smallest changes. Music plays a huge part as a main contribution to your experience. I hope after this post, we could learn something from the grand music of art in each demo. And as a great way to lead more people to demoscene.
SECOND REALITY by Future Crew. Legendary PC demo way before its time. Done before VGA was a thing. But what more amazing is its music. Purple Motion (Jonne Valtonen) and Skaven (Peter Hajba) wrote such breathtaking track for the demo. Skaven later went on and write music for Max Payne, Bejeweled series and Trine series. Future Crew founded Remedy, done Max Payne 1 & 2, Alan Wake and Quantum Break.
Monolith by ASD. They are known for doing out of this world demo with unconventional music. aMusic and Leviathan have done many great tracks for demos such as Life Force and Rupture. No one could beat them at this.
Rift by TBL. I would love to use Starstruck but Rift is much more mindblowing. Btw, this is an Amiga demo, not PC. And the music by the legendary Blaizer (Olof Gustafsson), co-founder of DICE. He's still active in the scene.
Final Audition by Plastic. Did I say sceners pioneer hybrid music? Yes I did. By the way this was released in 2005. And it's a PC demo, its graphic beat any games or movies at the time. Music by blz (Wojciech Golczewski).
Uncovering Static by Fairlight & Alcatraz. If you have been around the warez scene for a while, yes THAT Fairlight. Mind you, this is a 64k (64kilobytes) demo. Everything is done in real time, including music (by reed). Fleet of amazing work. Ahead of its time, what you saw in No Man Sky, is already done in the scene decades ahead.
Demoscene is the art of awesomeness. Only the bests come to together to create such art. It's an honor to take part in it.
Next week news post gonna be about tracker musicians. ;) im obsessed with Lioz (Thomas Bergersen) tracker music... Hope you enjoy!
