What is identity? And which is our to choose from? From our first moment on this beautiful planet to the last breath of our life, we act and change things around based on what we thought to fit our life. Conformity or Identity. We do what me must to define our individual self. But, is it worth doing?
Identity is meaningless when nobody pay attention to your hardworks. You must always have attention in order to 'activate' this individualism. To get these attentions, you must get your own unique actions, some called "talents". One used to say:
You die twice in your life.
First is when you passed away. The second is when the last people be forgotten about you.
For most people talents come as a birth gift. For most, they have talents because they have the luck and luxury to do so. However, some people, we have to work quadruple to gain only a fraction of these desired talents. And by then, we're still unknown.
I was searching for Youtube videos, and found a little and most close to heart video. As a former homeless, this hits me so hard.
Ryan Arcand has been homeless on the street of Edmonton, AB for over 30 years. He learned how to play piano by himself when he was at foster home. He became homeless after he lost his wife and children in a freak car accident. He wasn't just a self-taught pianist, Ryan is also a composer, as the song he played was written by him. (Ryan finally got a home, bless him.)
"Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable." - Leonard Bernstein
I could relate to Ryan in many ways. My life is shit beyond recognition, and it's getting shittier. Like him, I'm self taught from ground up, and til now, I can't tell a difference between major and minor. Yet, I'm proud to say I have the self-made talents to write heart moving music. There are many and many of us, unknown, and still have the talents to do productive things.
Leukemia. Discovered this after an extensive blood test 2 weeks ago. I will have my first session of chemotherapy next week. Doctor said I could have a while, 5 years maybe... could be shorter. I won't be able to visit NG regularly like before.
:) when I'm gone, all my music and art will be the last relics of my existence. Every bit of them. I wondered, would people still visit here...
We all live and die twice.
