In May 12th, Two Steps from Hell has released a brand new public album "Battlecry" to the public. Unlike Amaria, Battlecry is extremely ultra epic, as like Thomas Bergersen promised. First and foremost, this is probably the best music I have heard this year. It immediately boosted my emotions and inspirations after buying and listened to the album. And I'm listening to it while typing this post!
I won't say this little post is areview, more of an opinion, but whatever! Let's get to the points!
Reviews of my most favorite tracks:
(doesn't mean I don't like the rest, I just want to pick out the best!)
None Shall Live by Thomas Bergesen [2:20]
Massive introduction! However, I'm more distracted by the toms, evidentally and not mistakenly, was Heavyocity Damage! Those percussion were unmistaken for someone who used Damage quite too often. None Shall Live is the classic epic trailer hit you may heard many times on the cinema. But don't be taken back, the true Epicness have yet to arrive... we'll see!
Stormkeeper by Nick Phoenix [2:55]
This is the real step up for Nick's music. Usually he creates emotion track and Thomas handles the fast-paced piece. However, in this album, this is the real gamechanger for Nick Phoenix. Very catchy and massive. These brass is sweet and solid. As usual, which I think it's the key instrument in this album, is the massive choir ensembles. This stood out very well in this piece. If you've heard "Underworld", there is his vibe in here.
Victory by Thomas Bergersen [5:20]
I got the mixed vibes of "Heart of Courage", "For The Win" and "Dragonland" in this piece, no doubt, is uber amazing. I'm always amazed at the mixing quality of TSFH, but this piece (and the whole album in general) is top notch. The solo vocal in addition gave the deep chills down my spine.
Never Back Down by Thomas Bergersen [2:55]
The blend of neo-classical and hybrid orchestra in this one is insanely good. I really want this piece be longer...
Stronger Faster Braver by Thomas Bergersen [4:38]
Really reminded me of "Into Darkness", which I totally recommend you to check out that piece. As usual, quality is impressive. If you think "Final Frontier" was Thomas' best? You were wrong, this track, and "Star Sky", will blow you high into the sky!
Flight of the Silverbird by Thomas Bergersen [3:21]
I have the feeling this was inspired by John Powell's music "How to Train Your Dragon". But nonetheless, this is fucking awesome! I cannot fully describe my feeling right now, gotta be epic and fight dragons! JUST LISTEN TO THAT FUCKING ELECTRIC GUITAR!
Star Sky by Thomas Bergersen [5:30]
My life is completed... Somehow the main singer remineded me of Tarja from Nightwish. Anyway, "Star Sky", so far, I believe this to be Thomas Bergersen's best work, along with "Stronger Faster Braver", "Dragonland" and "Into Darkness". Beautiful melodies. Just listen to the choir, so beaufitul I could feel the tears rolling down my eyes!
I strongly recommend you guys to get this album. This will be a nice addition to your life of music!
Good day, NG!
Edit: Thomas Bergersen had something to say about the support for his music... This guy is so humble.
